GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
The objective of the Medicine program is intimately linked to the institutional mission, as it proposes the development of an open and ongoing education for the training of autonomous, creative and participatory medical professionals, as well as the training of a general practitioner who can provide a comprehensive response to problems.
The graduate of the Medicine program of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Universidad Privada María Serrana will be a general practitioner with a solid foundation in primary health care. They will possess a set of competencies that will allow them to perform competently in the health field, with a comprehensive, ethical approach committed to the community. This professional will be equipped to face the current challenges of the medical field, actively contributing to the well-being of society with a deep commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in their medical practice.
- To hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, in Paraguay or another country, evaluated by the program, taking into account the existing Academic Agreements between countries and the Subject Programs and Study Plans of the respective Institution, presented through legalized and endorsed study certificates and degrees that the University Superior Council considers sufficiently valid.
- To apply for admission to the Medicine program, committing to respect the Statutes, Regulations and provisions issued by the Program, the Faculty and the University.
- To submit the required documents.
- To pass the admission and leveling course established by the university as part of the selection process.
- For Paraguayan students:
- 2 (two) copies of Civil Identity Card, authenticated by notary.
- 2 (two) passport-type photographs, size 3×4.
- 1 (one) original Birth Certificate.
- 1 (one) original Secondary Education Certificate endorsed and legalized by the Ministry of Education and Sciences.
- 1 (one) copy of the Bachelor's Degree, authenticated by notary.
- 1 (one) copy of the tuition payment receipt.
- For foreign students:
- 3 (three) copies of identity document (RG, DNI) authenticated by Paraguayan notary.
- 2 (two) copies of valid temporary or permanent admission, authenticated by Paraguayan notary.
- 2 (two) passport-type photographs, size 3×4.
- 1 (one) Birth or marriage Certificate (APOSTILLED).
- 1 (one) original Secondary Education Certificate, with signature certification, endorsed by the Consulate legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Sciences or APOSTILLED, and with resolution issued by the Paraguayan MEC.
- 1 (one) copy of the Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, authenticated by notary.
- 1 (one) copy of the tuition payment receipt.
- For Paraguayan students:
- To have sufficient time to complete the Medicine program.
- To meet the administrative and financial requirements established by the Administration and Finance Coordination.
Universidad Privada María Serrana is made up of faculties and campuses, encompassing all current programs with various approaches. Each program has its own research lines.
The research lines of the Medicine program are indicative and non-restrictive, therefore subject to permanent review and validation.
The establishment of lines is the initial step toward the consolidation of research groups and, in the future, Specialized Institutes of the Medicine program at Universidad Privada María Serrana, visible to the scientific community and whose presence ensures interaction with national collaborators and international technical cooperation institutions.
1. OBJECTIVES
- To establish and define research lines that respond to disciplinary or interdisciplinary thematic axes.
- To propose research, innovation and technology projects derived from the lines in order to contribute to solving health sector problems and improving quality of life, increasing this sector's capacity to respond to the health needs of individuals, families and communities in Paraguay.
- To foster the formation of research groups in prioritized areas and subsequently consolidate Specialized Institutes in each of them.
2. METHODOLOGY
One known strategy for the formation and strengthening of research groups is to focus initial research efforts on specific areas, based on previously prioritized lines. Within this context, the aim is to establish research lines from which work proposed by Medicine program students and faculty will be designed. The six research lines are:
- Public Health
- Preventive and Curative Medicine
- Nutrition and Health
- Infectious and Tropical Diseases
- Molecular Epidemiology
- Neurosciences
UMS is naturally humanistic and social, with health being one of its strengths; from the related academic units, it contributes to providing society with highly qualified professionals to address the different health problems: physical, psychological and social. Therefore, this research line will continue to contribute knowledge through the various projects that are developed.
4. Preventive and Curative MedicineThis line investigates the different levels of health care and the construction of medical programs for the promotion, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human health, as well as analyzing and evaluating medical protocols, measurement and impact on society.
5. Nutrition and HealthThis line will enable the analysis, measurement and evaluation of nutrition and its effects on people's health. It is important to understand how the relationship between nutrition and health develops in order to prevent the different health risks in children, youth, adults and the elderly.
6. Infectious and Tropical DiseasesThe particular nature of being a tropical country requires generating studies on the different infectious diseases in order to understand their evolution, since climate change and pollution have caused these diseases to modify and become more resistant to existing medicine. This research line will highlight the new challenges posed by infectious and tropical diseases.
7. Epidemiología MolecularLa epidemiología molecular es la base del vínculo entre la academia universitaria y la comunidad. Además, representa la base científica de la salud pública para el siglo XXI, nueva disciplina científica que se fusiona perfectamente al modelo de estudio poblacional y a los programas de vigilancia epidemiológica estudiada por la epidemiologia clínica que maneja el MSPyBS.
8. NeurosciencesThis line will enable work on a large number of research projects, using modern methods to understand the structure, organization and functioning of the nervous system. Diseases and treatments will be researched in general aspects of basic acquired conditions of the central and peripheral nervous system, such as cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs), cranioencephalic traumas (CETs) and other basic neurological pathologies. The study of neuromuscular diseases, of particular prevalence in the country, is also established as a pillar of study, in order to enhance research and the Faculty's contribution to society.
